This hairstyle works best with hair that has been curled with a 1 1/4 inch+ curling iron. Hot Tools Professional 1110 Curling Iron with Multi-Heat Control, Mega 1-1/4″ is the one I used for this hairstyle.  I also recommend my all-time favorite product for adding volume, Sexy Hair Big Sexy Hair Volumizing Dry Shampoo, 3.4 Ounce.  If you have fine hair like mine, that dry shampoo will remove all evidence of thin/fine texture.

After curling and adding products, separate your hair into two sections.  On the smaller side of your part, take a section from the hairline to the top of your ear.  You can use a clip to hold the hair out of the way.

The next step is to make a rope braid with that small section.  To do this, separate the section in half and twist clockwise.  After twisting both clockwise, wrap the twists around each other in the opposite direction (counter-clockwise).

Once the rope braid is complete, pull on the strands to enhance the volume of this twisted braid.  This step is vital to a more polished look.

Next, bring the braid around the back of your head, pinning to keep the twist in place.  You’ll want to insert the bobby pins so that they are parallel with the twist.  This ensures that the pins stay hidden.  Another tip is to always insert the bobby pin wavy side down.  Doing it that way will help lock the pin in place.

The last step is to wrap the rope braid around the other section of your hair.  How loose or tight you wrap it around will depend on the length of your section.  For shorter hair, it will be tighter because there will be less hair to hold.  Secure the end of the twist with several bobby pins.

 This is the finished look!
